Thoughts from The Vicarage with Pews News, singing and more

Greetings, dear friends and please find attached Pews News with services for Sunday. Welcome to our French connections as well!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the flooding and sewage challenges we have had throughout the Valley. Huge thanks to all those who are liaising with the authorities at this time and for all who have been out and about supporting one another.

Services on Sunday at 9.00 East Garston. Lambourn as usual on the 2nd Sunday of the month.

January is a really good time for people to look around and think about what you want to do and how to rebalance things. In particular, if there is anything you have sometimes thought you would like to get involved with do speak to Julie to find out more revjulie.mintern@lambournvalley.org text or phone

We would always much rather start with what it is that you feel drawn to or interested in- but in order to start your thoughts flowing, we would love to have more people to help support Lambourn Lambs on Monday mornings term time, to join in helping when the Reception children come to church on the 1st Thursday of each month and we would also love to have some more people to help on Tuesday afternoons 4pm with the Youth choir. Do think about it and let me know!

If your bent is towards singing we’d love to hear from you – come and sing Faure’s Requiem rehearsals begin this evening January 11th at 8pm in St Michael’s Lambourn or if you are interested in joining the choir simply be in touch!

If you would specifically like to get involved on Sunday mornings we would love to grow our team who serve and lead prayers in our churches as well. We are also in need of help with coffee (in St Michael’s).

Time for a thank you to all those who came along to Christingle or carol singing – a magnificent sum of £524.77 was raised for the Children’s Society – well done and thanks to all who helped with refreshments back at The Vicarage for all those children!!!

Mr Vicarage and myself are on our belated Christmas leave from Saturday so Thoughts from The Vicarage will be later and shorter next week. Venerable Christine will be leading Sunday services for us.

Meanwhile, here is a poem which is a particular favourite written by Howard Thurman.

The Work of Christmas

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flocks,
The work of Christmas begins:
. To find the lost,
. To heal the broken,
. To feed the hungry,
. To release the prisoner,
. To rebuild the nations,
. To bring peace among the people,
. To make music in the heart.

God bless

Julie
