Thoughts from The Vicarage with walking, PCC and prayer

Greetings as we look ahead into the month of Maying! Please find attached Pews News for services, prayer requests and other events.

The Church is still in the Easter season between the Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost. The readings of these weeks tell the story of the early church and what the disciples were getting up to. This week we hear of the Ethiopian eunuch. Keith and I were fortunate enough to go on pilgrimage to Ethiopia, hence the Pews News photo.

Living Well in The End Times Wednesday’s first session saw 18 of us here at The Vicarage with plenty of laughter, thoughtful reflection, chat about memory boxes and of course cake! Looking forward to next week when we will be welcoming one of our local undertakers – remember no query too small. We have already been asked if we could repeat these gatherings so please let me know if you are interested.

St James APCM is on Monday 29th at 6pm in church and it’s your chance to hear what has been happening over the last 12 months. At the meeting we will need to elect churchwardens and PCC members. If you are interested in becoming a PCC member, please speak to either myself, Christine or one of the PCC secretaries, to Katie, Jenny or Lise, as soon as possible and complete a nomination form.

Please consider whether you are called to stand, and also pray for the life and work of the PCCs of each church, their effectiveness, commitment and openness to the guidance of God.

Don’t forget to sign up for the tennis tournament and social with proceeds going to All Saints Church Tower! Many thanks to Karen Hack and family – it’s your chance to win the coveted Charlie James Trophy. And also a reminder that Karen Sperrey & James Pryer of East Garston are kindly giving an illustrated talk on ‘The Restoration of Church Cottage’ the how and why on Tuesday May 28th 2024 at 7.30 p.m.in East Garston Village Hall. Tickets: £6 in advance or £10 on the night, again all proceeds are going to the Tower Fund. This will be a most interesting talk about the sympathetic and complete restoration of an historic, listed building in East Garston.

The Lambourn Wellbeing Walk last Monday was cold and damp but two walkers boldly went forth! No walk in a fortnight as it’s Bank Holiday. Next walk will be May 12th – meet at St Michael’s church 11.30.

Finally a prayer

Help us, Lord, individually and together,
to be open to your guidance,
to hear and discern your calling,
to respond in faith,
to share your good news
and reveal your kingdom
where we are, and where you send us.
Ignite our hearts, that we may be
beacons of your love. Amen

God bless
Julie
