Thoughts from The Vicarage with Trinity, Scaffolding and bells
Greetings as we look ahead to Trinity Sunday.
Please find attached Pews News for days, times and venues for services this weekend and next week. Services are all as usual for the 3rd Sunday of the month with the addition of Cecily and Bertie’s christening in St Michael & All Angels.
The Pews News photo is the cover of one of the most influential pieces of writing and reflection on the Rublev Trinity. The book is in Lambourn church. Please do go in and browse – all welcome. All I ask is that you please leave it there so others may look at it.
Living Well in The End Times made a good start on Wednesday. It’s open to all, so please do feel free to come along. This week we will be welcoming a lawyer as well as eating cake. As I said on Wednesday – if you’re eating cake you know you are alive.
Scaffolding – there was a great deal of formation, learning, reflection and worship at Theological College but little about scaffolding! However, my service here in the Valley is equipping me well as the scaffolders are, at this very moment in St Michael’s preparing for the cleaning and lime painting of the sanctuary. They were also to be found in St James for the redecorations and cleaning and in due course will be in All Saints for the roof and tower.
Thank you to all those who have given of their time and talents to get these projects under way and, of course, to all those who have contributed financially so that these sacred spaces are well and suitably maintained. We are but stewards of the churches which are there for all, regardless of belief.
Thanks to all who are supporting each of our churches on the Valley. Your support, be it prayerful, preparation for services or practical please know that we are thankful for all that you do – from lighting the candles through to managing building projects. The Holy Spirit we celebrated last Sunday gives gifts in all various forms and the Body of Christ is served in as many ways!
The Lambourn Valley bell ringers NEED you. You don’t have to be a church goer – although it would be super if you’d like to know more! I met with Nick Annetts, the new Tower Captain and he shared some exciting news. You may have noticed that the Lambourn bells are not always rung on Thursdays. This is because the numbers are a bit low. East Garston & Lambourn Bellringers often join Great Shefford for practice. There is an Open Tower morning on June 21st 10 – 12 noon at St Mary’s Church Great Shefford. If you are curious about bell ringing, would like to watch or have a go do pop down to find out more
The Food Banks are in need. The Hungry Holidays project is a major undertaking and really needs your support to make it successful. Please donate generously either using the green boxes in the churches or the local foodbank. Please find attached a food bank shopping list.
A prayer for the coming week as we look ahead to Trinity Sunday:
Holy God, faithful and unchanging:
enlarge our minds with the knowledge of your truth,
draw us more deeply into the mystery of your love,
that we may truly worship you,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen
God bless
Julie
