Thoughts from The Vicarage with Walk Back Talking and a Sonnet

Greetings as we approach Trinity Sunday and for some the half term break! Please find attached Pews News & read on for dates and news.

All and I mean, all are welcome to the services and if you’d like to know more simply email, phone or text me. If you’d like to go quietly into one of our churches, to pray, explore or simply sit in the peace and quiet you are always welcome. Remember the office of Morning Prayer is held in St Michael’s in person or via a Zoom (link on p2 of Pews News) each morning at 8.30 except Sundays. Simply and quietly giving thanks for the gift of life and a new day is a blessing.

Following the tragedy of a young man recently taking his life, I was contacted by at least half a dozen deeply saddened people asking the question can we do anything to help and expressing the sad truth that our community has witnessed far too much loss in recent years.

Julia Bennet floated the idea of ‘Walk Back Talking’. A pilot gathering was held on Tuesday to which myself and a good number came along. The message from the sharing and telling of experiences was that ‘it really is OK not to be OK’. All agreed another gathering would be good. It will take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm at 4 Newbury Street Lambourn with light refreshments – probably pizza! All welcome. Shre this with others and a poster is attached.

Karen Sperrey & James Pryer of East Garston are kindly giving an illustrated talk on ‘The Restoration of Church Cottage’ the how and why on Tuesday May 28th 2024 at 7.30 p.m.in East Garston Village Hall. Tickets: £6 in advance or £10 on the night, again all proceeds are going to the Tower Fund. This will be a most interesting talk about the sympathetic and complete restoration of an historic, listed building in East Garston.

And still time to join the East Garston Tennis Tournament held at Manor Farm, East Garston on Sunday 9th June. Bookings to: Karen Hack on karen@hackfamily.co.uk / 07802753164 in aid of The Tower Appeal.

Thank you to all those who came along and supported the APCMs of the Valley churches and for all who hold office and in any other way support the smooth running and upkeep of the churches.

Count on Nature week is approaching June 8th – June 16th . Everyone is invited to help us count what is living in the churchyard. Join us at any time, no booking required. Recording sheets and wildlife guides will be provided. Children are especially welcome on Saturday 15th – please bring an adult with you!

And finally, Malcolm Guite’s sonnet for Trinity Sunday

In the Beginning, not in time or space,
But in the quick before both space and time,
In Life, in Love, in co-inherent Grace,
In three in one and one in three, in rhyme,
In music, in the whole creation story,
In His own image, His imagination,
The Triune Poet makes us for His glory,
And makes us each the other’s inspiration.
He calls us out of darkness, chaos, chance,
To improvise a music of our own,
To sing the chord that calls us to the dance,
Three notes resounding from a single tone,
To sing the End in whom we all begin;
Our God beyond, beside us and within.

God bless

Julie
