All Saints Church – article in June 2017 Village Views

Our Easter Sunday Holy Communion service began with the congregation gathered around the Easter Garden in the churchyard for prayers led by The Venerable Christine Allsopp. We then returned into the church for the service and once again used our historic 16th and 17th century chalices which had been withdrawn specially for the occasion from the Treasury at Christ Church Cathedral.

East Garston was the venue for our Benefice Group Communion on 30th May. We were led in our singing by the choir from St Michael and All Angels, Lambourn. Instead of the traditional anthem, we were treated to an organ solo performed by Dr Stephen Holmes. After the service many of the congregation stayed to chat while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits.

On Saturday 10th June the PCC is organising in aid of church funds a repeat of last year’s successful and very enjoyable Village Safari Supper. The evening will start at 6.30 pm at Oakfields House, Newbury Road with drinks and nibbles hosted by Mary and Henry Wilson. Starters and main courses will be hosted at other houses in the village and then we will all gather together for desserts in the Village Hall. Tickets are priced at £25 and will be available until Monday 5th June from Dawn Tonge (648370), Bob Briant (648646) and Karen Sperrey (648365 or karen@kado.cloud). Please also contact one of us if you would like to act as a host or be able to provide a dessert – hosts will not be expected to pay as they will be providing a meal.

All Saints Church will be at the Village Fete on 15th July. We would be very grateful to anyone who would donate cupcakes, tray bakes, cakes, flapjacks, meringues or biscuits that we can sell. Please call me (648646) to arrange collection or bring them to our marquee on the day.

Phillip Daish-Handy, the international cellist, and the West Berkshire Strings will be performing a concert in the church on Sunday 10th September at 3.30 pm. Tickets will be £10 for adults but under 18s will get free entry. Don’t forget to put this date in your diary and to book your tickets early from me (648646 or rebriant@waitrose.com) or Pat Glover (patriciaglover@btinternet.com) to avoid disappointment.
