Thoughts from The Vicarage with Ashing, Stations of The Cross and Lent groups

Greetings on this Shrove Tuesday afternoon as we prepare for pancakes … at Youth Group! I do hope that you all have an enjoyable evening – pancakes or not.

Please find attached a mid-week Ash Wednesday Pews News and a reminder that there is an Ash Wednesday service at 7.30 pm in St Michael & All Angels tomorrow. If you prefer to come along in the daylight, I will be in St Michael’s tomorrow morning after Morning Prayer from 9-10.30.

Details of Sunday services are on the Pews News as well as the readings and prayers.

Once again all are welcome to Come and See on Saturdays 3.30 pm at The Vicarage Lambourn as together, we find out more about The Beatitudes, explore spirituality and help people find out more about the Christian faith. Simply come along, share a cuppa and cake as we chat through some of the questions and thoughts we may have. Find out more here at

Come and See – for individuals (daily content)

Following Ash Wednesday there will be an interactive Stations of The Cross prayer walk set up in St Michael & All Angels for Lent – all are welcome for quiet prayer, contemplation and reflection.

A reminder that Lent groups in the Valley will be:

  • St James the Greater Saturdays at 9.00 am preceded by Morning Prayer at 8.30 starting 25thFebruary with breakfast;
  • Mellor Cottage, Walkers Lane, Lambourn Mondays at 2pm starting 27thFebruary;
  • Lambourn Vicarage 4 Newbury Street, Lambourn Wednesdays at 7pm starting 1st March.

Please sign up on the list in each church if you’d like to come along to a Lent group – you’d be most welcome.

For a Lent booklet Dust and Glory please email me if you would like one at £2 each. For a longer read try Dr Emma Ineson’s book ‘Failure: What Jesus Said About Sin, Mistakes and Messing Stuff Up.’ This runs alongside and elaborates upon the smaller booklet along with questions to stimulate your thinking and prayer.

World Day of Prayer written by the women of Taiwan is on March 3rd at 3pm in the Sacred Heart church in Lambourn. All are welcome.

Finally, a thought as we approach Lent. In Advent, the light builds and gathers to show that the birth of Jesus is getting nearer- in Lent, the darkness gathers as, candle after candle, the lit candles are extinguished until the last one is put out on Good Friday itself. As we journey into Lent with the light of Christ within, may we do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with you our God. Amen.

God bless

Julie
