Thoughts from The Vicarage with Palms and Dates for Holy Week
Greetings as we look forward to Palm Sunday,
Please find attached this week’s Pews News. On Sunday we will walk the journey alongside Jesus as he enters Jerusalem to cries of Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
The scene is set for the pivotal week in human history. All of the pieces are in place – and we are invited, called, required, to walk the road with Jesus through Holy Week as it leads from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, and from there to Holy Saturday and thence to the unexpected and unabated joy of Easter Day. Jesus does all of this for us, for you – and we are invited simply to be there, to be with him.
Please look on the Pews News attached for details of Holy Week Services.
The bells of East Garston, safely returned, duly admired by a steady stream of visitors and re-dedicated are nearly back in the tower! Many thanks to the team and all at Lorne Farm who who organised the metal detecting team last weekend when a grand total of nearly £3000 was raised for the All Saints Tower fund. A super effort by all concerned!
The work in the chancel and the ringing chamber of St Michael & All Angels is nearly completed. Once the work is signed off and all scaffolding removed (!) the doors will be open once again 🙂 The Valley has been blessed by some great craftsmen!
There is no Come and See this Saturday but there will be lots to do in St Michael’s church on Sunday as our Palm crosses are blessed outside and we make our own palm branches inside!
A few of the lovely book of Daily Prayers for the Coronation of King Charles III remain. Please do ask me if you’d like one.
Finally,
On Palm Sunday the Crowd shout “Hosanna to the Son of David.”
Soon the Crowd will shout “We have no King but Caesar. Crucify Jesus and release Barabbas”.
So, let us pray;
Jesus, when you rode into Jerusalem
the people waved palms with shouts of acclamation.
Grant that when the shouting dies
we may still walk beside you, even to a cross. Amen. New Zealand Prayer Book
God bless
