Thoughts from The Vicarage with a christening, school holidays & Pathways

Greetings this morning – thankfully for many, cooler than of recent days! Congratulations to all those within the Valley who enjoyed Ascot success last week as the tennis fans amongst us look forward to Wimbledon!

Please find attached Pews News for the coming week.

Looking towards Sunday, all are welcome to join us in either St James for a quiet 9.00 BCP service or in St Michael’s at 10.30 for a sung Eucharist which will include the Christening of Lola from school. Lola asked to be baptised and it will be a joy to so do on Sunday!  Do come along to share in a very special service indeed. She has even requested her favourite hymn! I won’t give it away but we sing it a lot at school as it links in with the school’s motto of Matthew 5:14-16.

Thinking of school – do you know anyone new to the village…..friends, neighbours, relatives? If so, the school is hosting an open morning on Monday 4th July 10:30am to 11:30am and we are hoping that new families to the village will come and visit the school. As Maria the principle wrote

Are you new to Lambourn Village?  Are you looking for a school for your child or children that sparks curiosity, nurtures creativity and fosters a love of learning? Look no further than Lambourn CofE Primary School. Our extensive grounds, including a swimming pool, are nestled in the heart of a vibrant community. Our school offers an immersive environment that inspires pupils to reach their full potential while cultivating a lifelong love for knowledge.  At Lambourn CofE Primary School, we believe that education is an exciting adventure, and we invite you and your family to come and visit our school on Monday 3rd July from 10:30am to 11:30am.

With the school holidays fast approaching there are two opportunities coming up for families with Primary age children to share with you;

  • the 4-week (Mon – Thur) Holiday Club coming up at Lambourn CE School. Details from school.
  • the week-long holiday club being held at St Lawrence’s church in Hungerford run by my friend & colleague Mike Saunders from Aug 21st-25th, 9.30-12 noon for 5-11 years details attached.

There’s a new edition of Pathways in church for you to pick up and take home. – it’s free. From deepening your spiritual life to practical tips on living out your faith, Pathways will provide something for everyone and be enjoyed by many. This Summer edition has everything ranging from worship in schools to reflections upon Sanctuary and Welcome and includes a thoughtful piece on suicide written by Revd Sharon Grenham-Thompson whose son took his own life.  Previous editions of the magazine may be found at www.oxford.anglican.org/pathways

A couple of thoughts on practical Valley matters;

  • James Potter, river warden in Eastbury is looking for collective help again to help with river jobs. Please do respond if you are able so to do. Even yours truly has been in the river!
  • Watch out for changes at the surgery related to appointments and to repeat prescriptions. If you think you know someone who needs a hand with the surgery changes please help out as change can be a bit of a challenge at the best of times!

And finally, a prayer for these times when many find themselves needing reassurance and hope, there will be further copies of this prayer in church as soon as the post arrives …
