Thoughts from The Vicarage with Restore our Roof, Trinity & a farewell

Greetings to you and yours on this cooler May morning as we look ahead to the feast of the Holy Trinity, when we celebrate the great gift we have of knowing Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This week I will ponder upon the phrase ‘being weavers of hope.’

Being the 5th Sunday of the month the Feast of the Holy Trinity will be celebrated as a Benefice service to be held in St Michael & All Angels. Please do make an effort to travel a mile or two to join in worship, fellowship and catch up on the latest news! In our reading from Isaiah we will hear of the great work of God in creation while the Gospel reading from St Matthew, known as the Great Commission tells of Jesus sending out his disciples to baptise in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with a promise to be with them for always. Looking forward to welcoming you on Sunday.

News from St Michael & All Angels the APCM was well attended and the PCC duly elected. It’s a pleasure to announce that we have welcomed not only three new members Charlotte Chatfield, Amanda Marchant and Nick Annetts but have also co-opted Jo Higgs. The newly formed PCC met after the APCM and I’m thrilled to announce that we have a new PCC secretary in Jo who had no hesitation in volunteering. Thank you Jo and to all members of the PCC.

The ‘Restore our Roof’ appeal was announced at the APCM with the attached appeal. When specialists began work to replace the stolen lead from the South and North of the church it was discovered that more work was needed. The Standing Committee sprang into action! We are pleased to announce that not only has the Fundraising begun but we also have a programme of super fund raising events to suit everyone. The first of which is the Flower Festival with a grand cheese and wine reception on July 17th. Our enthusiastic team has made a start and would love to hear from you! The theme is Community Celebration. Please see the attached fabulously flowery poster designed by our new PCC secretary Jo who looks forward to hearing from you 07842 954904. All shapes and sizes of displays are welcome. We are already promised one from some of our youngest villagers – who are going to use their hands to build a display!

Bishop Steven’s farewell service There are just three days to go before the farewell service for Bishop Steven takes place at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. Sunday’s event starts at 5pm. In this special service, Bishop Steven will lay down his crozier as he begins his retirement. You can watch the service online.

And finally a prayer Holy Spirit, renew our hearts and minds today. Breathe on us with your peace and fill us with your saving power. Guide us and all nations in the path of truth and bestow upon us the courage to live out our faith in the world. Amen

Every blessing
Julie
