Our Mothering Sunday service on 26th March was attended by over 50 adults and 40 children. The West Berkshire Strings played as the congregation arrived and this year their solo piece during the service was “Love is all around” by Reg Presley. Susan Holmes played Prelude No 1 in C Major from Book 1 of The Well-Tempered Clavier by J S Bach as an organ interlude while the Strings packed their instruments away safely. The children presented cards and posies to their mothers, having made them on Saturday afternoon in the Village Hall. Since she had given notice that this would be the last time that she would be organising the children for this and other church events, Vikki Brooks was presented with a flower arrangement by Karen Sperrey and a gift token from the young mothers’ group.
The Annual Meeting of East Garston Parishioners was held on 29th March to elect Churchwardens. Dawn Tonge and I were re-elected as there were no other nominations. At the following Annual Parochial Church Meeting, Rowland Cobbold, Thomas Coleman, Annette Furneaux, Ann Phillips and Karen Sperry were re-elected to the PCC. Subsequently, at the first PCC meeting, Karen and Tom were re-elected as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
The sun shone brilliantly on Palm Sunday for our procession from All Saints along the old railway track to St James, Eastbury (see photo courtesy of Peter Cook). This followed a service in the church on “The Word”; during the service, members of the congregation read a narrative version of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. When we arrived at St James church we were greeted with a welcome drink and biscuits before celebrating Holy Communion.
