Thoughts from the Vicarage 109

Greetings as the weekend approaches,

Very much looking forward to the services this weekend but firstly a reminder that the clocks go back on Sunday 31st October – an extra hour in bed!
Please find attached the Sunday sheet with readings and prayers.

All are very welcome this Sunday in East Garston at 10.30 as we celebrate the Patronal Festival of All Saints. If you’ve never been to All Saints do come along – a chance to see the beautiful Jesse arch and paintings as we thank God for our village church and remember all the Saints who have trod the path and inspired us.

The Valley is proud to be welcoming Janet Proudman, reader at Christchurch cathedral, as preacher that morning and we extend a very warm welcome to her.

We are also welcoming sisters Pia and Olivia, along with Lise to both of our services as Stephen and Wendy are having a well-deserved break. Pia, studying music at Bristol will be playing for us at each service while Olivia will be singing and Lise playing her beautiful flute for us!

A huge thank you to Janet, Pia, Olivia and Lise for joining us on this special weekend!

All Souls is at 3pm on Saturday 30th October in St Michael’s. Everyone is welcome to come to this quiet service of reflection, of remembering those whom we love yet see no more and light a candle. We welcome Pia, Olivia and Lise who will be playing and singing for us during the service.

If you would like the name of a loved one remembered in the service, please email myself or write it on the list in St Michael’s.

The Empty Chair is in St Michael’s – If you’d like to remember a loved one, there is still time to call in and add their name, sit in the quiet, say a prayer and maybe light a candle when you get home. All names will be gathered and laid on the altar on Monday for Morning Prayer over the next two weeks.

St Michael’s coffee and chat welcomes all who would like a cuppa and a chat, a chance to get out and join friendly faces – every Monday 2-4pm at the British Legion. Do come along to either join in or lend a hand – you’ll be very welcome.

Lambourn Lambs are gathering on Monday mornings from November 8th in St Michael’s from 9.45 – 11.45 – covid aware. It’s a great opportunity to meet other babies, toddlers and a few adults as well! Come along, spread the word and bring a friend

Looking ahead – dates for your diary

  • Pauline Illott’s funeral will take place at 2.30pm on November 2nd in St Michael’s
  • Margaret Sopp’s funeral will take place at 12.30 on November 4th in St Michael’s
  • November 14th is Remembrance Sunday – the service in Lambourn at 10.45 will take place outside St Michael’s, as will a Remembrance gathering in Eastbury at 10.30 – all preceded by a service at 9am in East Garston.
  • The East Garston act of Remembrance will take place on Saturday 13th 10.45 at the War Memorial.

Next Sunday

  • 9am at St James Holy Communion
  • 10.30 am St Michael’s Eucharist
  • With rising numbers of infection within the Valley please do take care to protect yourself and one another. We are continuing to socially distance where possible in our churches, have a good air flow and encourage the use of sanitiser and the wearing of masks.

Very much looking forward to both services this weekend. There will be coffee and ‘East Garston biscuits’ following the Patronal service with an opportunity to meet our guest and preacher. I do hope that you are able to join us

Meanwhile, prayerful best wishes

Julie
