Thoughts from the Vicarage 115

Greetings dear friends of the Valley

Just about to press the send button when a letter from The Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft, Bishop of Oxford flew into my inbox. I have attached it for you as he brings his reflections and a message to all Parishes.

Following on from the Plan B news this week I think it would be helpful to share the following:

  • We have been mostly wearing masks in Church, but wearing a mask is now required, it is a legal duty. This won’t feel a substantial change for most people, but it is the first thing we need to ensure.
  • Please keep using hand gel, and be careful to keep socially distanced in church, both before and after services.
  • Every other pew will remain closed as previously.
  • Meetings will continue via Zoom as will Morning Prayer, Compline and Wednesday @ 7

This Sunday’s services

9.00 Holy Communion All Saints East Garston
10.30 Eucharist St Michael & All Angels Lambourn
6 pm Carol service by Candlelight All Saints East Garston

Tomorrow, Saturday at midday sees live music as our organist Dr Stephen Holmes gives an organ recital – all are welcome!

Carol singing in Lambourn is on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday this coming week – meet at 6.30pm at the Lychgate outside St Mary & All Angels

In other news, we have had no sightings of our two juvenile hedgehogs over the last few days, despite our delicious Spike’s hoggy food so we are hoping that they are hibernating.

The school in Lambourn remains in our prayers as the end of term approaches. It has been a treat to be the audience for both the Nativity and the musical re-telling of the birth of Jesus. Rachel, the Headteacher turned into a film maker on both occasions as she filmed each event for the benefit of the families of our school.

I also had the opportunity to join in and teach years 1, 4 and 6 this week – with topics ranging from the Cosmos, Big Bang and Genesis in Year 6 to preparing for Christmas in church with Y1 via what is it like to follow Jesus in Year 4. All the children were so attentive, ready to learn and ask questions. They were also immensely helpful as my myriad of visual aids had to be returned to church and The Vicarage via my car!

Covid cases in the Valley are rising. Should you find that you do test positive for Covid you will find the attached flow chart really useful – Stay at Home Guidance for households with suspected or confirmed cases of Covid.

I am recommending the frequent use of lateral flow tests (daily in my personal case) so we may keep one another as safe as is possible during the season. We believe that everyone is known and loved individually by God and that as many members within one body we are called to be responsible to and for one another, respecting the more vulnerable whose suffering is our suffering (1 Cor 12:12-27).

Finally, you will find this week’s prayer list on the attached Pews News – a new list begins as this one is published so please let me know names for prayers – it is such a joy to exercise this ministry. We pray each name at Morning Prayer 8.30 am and Compline 8.30 pm.

With warmest wishes

Julie
