Thoughts from The Vicarage with All Saints and All Souls

Greetings on this beautiful Autumnal afternoon and just a reminder that the clocks go back an hour on October 30th especially to our ‘newly added readers’.

This is all the more important as we will be celebrating All Saints’ Day at 10.30 that morning! So, the good news is that you can have an extra hour in bed before coming along to All Saints in East Garston! Do come if you are able and if you haven’t been to East Garston before you will have missed the incredible Jesse arch. It is really special as is the window full of Saints at the East end of the church.

Please find attached Pews News in which you will see that our Lambourn Valley service of remembering those whom we love, yet see no more, is this Saturday October 29th at 3pm in St Michael & All Angels. All, and we mean all are welcome at this short service in which there will be an opportunity to light candles, pray and reflect as the names of those we love, yet see no more, are read.

If you would like the name of your loved one read out, please do add it to the list next to the chair. Many of you will already have seen the poster on the railings in Lambourn – please do let others know. There will be refreshments after the short service and an opportunity to meet and chat.

The Empty Chair is once again in St Michael & All Angels for all those who would like to remember a loved one as we move towards All Souls.

I wonder if you’ve seen the super new pocket-sized prayer cards in each church. Each offers a short bible verse, using the psalms, along with a short prayer that you can make your own. There are twelve in total each addressing different feelings which we all from time-to-time experience – speaking for myself! Why not give it a go and share that source of help with others. They are free to take away and use at home or wherever. Should you be feeling that you would like a chat or some support please don’t hesitate to ask.

Last week Thoughts from The Vicarage included a lot of information related to support with costs of living increasing and worries beginning to surface about how to budget for the winter. If you missed this or know someone who may benefit, please do just ask and I’ll resend.

Finally, thank you for all your good wishes – this has been another full week here in the Valley. Looking forward to greeting you at All Saints on Sunday, meanwhile,

God bless

Julie
