Thoughts from The Vicarage with Thank yous, tennis and Pews News

Greetings to you and yours as we prepare to celebrate the Patronal Festival of St James The Apostle as reflected in the photo of a scallop shell on Pews News this week. It is a guiding symbol along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes. It helps guide pilgrims towards Santiago de Compostela – both a reassuring symbol and practical tool for pilgrims.

The Community Flower Festival team surpassed themselves over last weekend as did all our very many visitors! Thank you to all. With over 30 wonderful and various contributions from individuals, clubs, the racing community, children and school it was truly a feast for the senses – as was the opening Wine & Cheese reception on Friday evening. The Art group & camera club added to the wealth of exhibits all reflecting the artistic talent of Lambourn. And needless to say the Raffle & cream teas finished off the weekend in style!

All was in aid of the ‘Restore our Roof Appeal’ – there’s still time to contribute. The next event is on August 9th a Summer Lunch in the garden at Meridian the home of Ruth and John Honey. Tickets via Ruth on 07720 439733 with a minimum donation of £10 per person.

The service at St James will be at 10.30 and is the only Eucharist in the Valley this week. All are welcome! There will be a service of Holy Baptism at St Michael & All Angels when Steph will be christened in St Michael’s. We wish her a very special day as she is welcomed into the body of Christ having decided to be baptised so she may become a Godmother in September.. Steph and I met for three sessions as she and I spoke of the Christian faith, the service itself and the symbols of the Christina faith within that service. If you are interested in being Christened please do be in touch

Here are further dates for your diary, make sure you make a note now!

Many thanks to Karen & Jon who hosted a wonderful tennis tournament at their East Garston home. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and a good sum for the Tower Fund was raised!

Finally, thank you for your prayers & concern for Keith. ‘Under investigation’ has now moved to diagnosis. We are thankful for the care of the GWH & the surgery. We are hoping to be taking our Summer break to France as planned, all being well.

Very finally, a prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ,
may the tears shed in this earthly life be a balm for all who weep,
and may the prayers of your pilgrimage give strength to all who suffer,
for your mercy’s sake.
Amen

Every blessing,

Julie
