Thoughts from The Vicarage with Summer lunch, a new festival & Proms last night
Greetings! Please find attached Pews News for this Sunday coming, August 9th. Additionally a second Pews News containing service times, venues, readings and Collects for Sundays in August As Pews News is taking a break please use your own prayers and thanksgivings.
This Sunday, August 9th 12.30 all are welcome to a Summer Lunch in the garden of Ruth & John Honey’s home; Meridian, The Greenways Lambourn. Tickets, £10 from Ruth or Doug. If your pocket is empty of cash please use the honesty (!) tap tap machine in church
Doug Kirby and the team are proud to present Last Night of The Proms screened live on September 12th in St Michael’s with cups (drinks), canapes, flags, and no doubt, lots of enthusiastic singing. All are welcome with doors open at 5.30. There will be a chance to mingle amongst friends or go and look closely at the Willis organ of St Michael’s, the little sister to the Albert Hall organ! Organist Stephen will be on hand to share the inside secrets of the organ. A ticket will secure you a seat via the St Michael & All Angels FB page https://tinyurl.com/wu9j3ukx or speak to either Doug, Ruth or Julie.
That very same day also sees two other important events. St James will be holding their Gift Day along with a sale of produce in the morning – again, all are welcome to come along to what is a delightful spread of goodies outside St James!
Should you be feeling more energetic you may like to join in Ride and Stride that very same day September 12th in your own time! The Berks Historic Churches Trust raises money by sponsorship to help maintain the fabric of churches. As a Benefice we benefit from this Trust. It would be great if you’d like to take part this year. Participants, welcomers at each church & sponsors are all needed! If you can take part as a Rider or Strider or be in the church as a Welcomer, please speak to, or contact a churchwarden.
The Church of England has a new Festival to be celebrated on Sunday September 6th. “The Festival of Creation in Christ” We are looking forward to celebrating on September 6th!
Finally,
Lord of the universe,
You have made us from the stuff of the earth, and to earth we shall return.
May we tread lightly upon this earth and succeed in the innovation and development of sources of renewable energy and green technology.
By your grace, may we live our days wisely, live sustainably,
and at the last come with all your saints into paradise and enjoy creation made new.
Amen
Thoughts from The Vicarage & Pews News is taking a break and will return in September, meanwhile,
Every blessing,
Julie
