Thoughts from the Vicarage 130

Greetings

We welcome Rev Liz Jackson, Assistant Archdeacon of Reading, to St Michael’s as she leads our Benefice Mothering Sunday Eucharist this morning. The original meaning was of course the tradition of returning to the Mother Church half way through Lent, not to promote card sales.  Whilst there may be many celebrations, let us remember to pray for those for whom the day brings sadness, sorrow or pain.

Lent Courses continue this week, both on Monday at Mellor Cottage, and Wednesday at 7.00pm. via Zoom. We don’t have any more of the USPG course booklets, but understand that they are available online.

We are sad to hear that Katie and Ian have Covid which may curtail their incredible target of walking one million steps this month. However they will definitely complete and excel the 10k challenge in aid of the Samaritans. This cause is one way in which we as the churches in the valley can support our local communities.

Congratulations to St James, and especially Deborah Phillips for guiding the PCC in the challenge of achieving a Bronze Eco Church Award. The overall aim of this award is to celebrate the ways that church communities have been engaging with caring for the earth as a key part of our Christian faith.

We remain indebted to Christine and the Churchwardens and Secretaries for ensuring that life in the parishes carries on as normally as possible.

Best wishes
Keith
