Thoughts from The Vicarage with Michaelmas Daisies, meet Lambourn’s New Treasurer, & Gift Day

On Sunday, we hold the festival of Michael and All Angels when we will celebrate three prominent biblically named angels: Michael, Gabriel and Raphael – depicted as the beloved messengers of God.

Being the Patronal Festival there will be a single benefice service in St Michael & All Angels Lambourn at 10.30 followed by refreshments to which all are welcome. Readings, prayers and dates on the attached Pews News – along with Michaelmas Daisies! Michaelmas as a shortening of ‘Michaels’s Mass’

Along with Bruce Laurie I will be at the Lych Gate for Gift Day from 9 o’clock on Saturday ready to receive your gifts which this year are going towards the renovation of the Willis Organ which has accompanied so many Lambourn brides down the aisle at their weddings! Together, let’s ensure it will be there for future generations to treasure.

Thank you very much to those of you who have responded to the Gift Day letter already – if you can’t make Saturday morning, please just pop your gift through the Vicarage letter box. We’ve tried to deliver a gift day letter to each home – quite a big job! Thanks to all those who helped out especially Trinity and Jamie-Mae who used to be at Lambourn school and are now at John O’Gaunt; they spent three hours on the job – ending up at the Vicarage for chocolate biscuits and a can of coke!

Each gift is truly valued and appreciated and our new Treasurer will be letting us know the total in due course. For those of you who may not know Ian … Meet our new treasurer!

Ian Courtney MBE took over as PCC treasurer earlier this year. Married to Katie (our new PCC Secretary), the couple live in Wantage. Ian worked for NatWest / RBS for 38 years mostly in commercial banking and has 25 years’ experience as a school governor; all of which has given him good training for looking after us! Welcome Ian – great to have you on board!

A reminder that we’re into the last few days to collect your free roll of compostable food waste caddy liners! It’s our way of helping you make eco-friendly choices. These useful liners are up for grabs during regular opening hours from Lambourn Library – don’t miss out!

Finally, remember that Bishop Olivia will be holding a service of confirmation on Wednesday November 28th at 6.30pm in St Michael & All Angels Lambourn. Please do put this date in your diary, come along and support all those being confirmed – it will be a very special occasion! Confirmation is when a person confirms the promises made when they were baptised, committing to a life of following Jesus. Find out more at the following link: if you are thinking about it, please do simply text, email or ring me. It’s been a joy being in touch with those thinking about confirmation – you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
