Thoughts from the Vicarage 270

Greetings as we look ahead to Sunday – with Ash Wednesday following on March 5th.

Tomorrow, Thursday sees the consecration of our Bishop designate Mary. The service begins at 11am and there will be a live stream https://oxford.anglican.org/livestream.

Please do share news of this Taizé opportunity!

You may remember that we prayed for Martha last year as she set off for Taizé. Once again, there’s an opportunity to travel to Taizé in France with young adults from across the Diocese of Oxford and join thousands of others from around the world in community, worship and prayer.  Taizé in France is an extraordinary place – quite different from anywhere else. It combines a religious monastery with the feel of a huge youth camp! Young adults from many different backgrounds and denominations travel to Taizé for a unique Christian experience of openness, solidarity and encounter. You’ll experience a wonderful sense of freedom, prayer and community. Read what people say about the experience. The dates are August 16-24.

Lent and a reminder that Shrove Tuesday is coming up, Ash Wednesday on March 5th with a Benefice Eucharist with Ashing at 7.30 in St Michael & All Angels. Lent groups begin on March 10th Mellor Cottage Lambourn @ 2pm and March 11th Lent Group @ The Vicarage Lambourn @7pm

New electoral roll – the electoral roll officers, Karen at All Saints, Jenny at St James and Keith at St Michael’s are looking forward to receiving your completed electoral roll forms. A form is attached today. And to make it even more simple you are able to complete it online using the attached editable PDF.

Finally – World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical organisation, led by women, which enables women everywhere to share the hopes, concerns and prayers of their country by taking it in turns to write the service. This year’s service comes from the Cook Islands and will take place on Friday 7th March 2025 3.00 at Sacred Heart church Baydon Road. Everyone is welcome to attend this service – men, women, young people and children. Please come and share the powerful and inspiring feeling of joining in a Worldwide Wave of Prayer.

And very finally a prayer….

Heavenly Father,
Stir our hearts, Lord,
that we may be ready,
to take the opportunities with which you present us,
to do what is right and good,
what is loving and caring,
what makes manifest the peace and justice of your kingdom.
Guide us and inspire us to show and share your love.
Every blessing,
Julie
