Thoughts from The Vicarage with Electoral Roll Form, Info and Pews News
Greetings on a wet morning as we look ahead to Sunday – the 2nd before Lent.
Volunteer vacancy for a PCC secretary for St Michael’s. We have had a super offer of a minute secretary for the PCC and now we are praying for a secretary – to keep us/me in order! Please have a chat if you are interested.
New electoral roll – the electoral roll officers, Karen (All Saints), Jenny (St James) and Keith (St Michael) are looking forward to receiving your completed electoral roll forms. A letter and form are attached to today. And to make it even more simple you are able to complete it on line using the attached editable PDF.
Looking ahead to Lent and a reminder that Ash Wednesday is on March 5th. The books have arrived ready for Lent and will be in St Michael’s on Sunday for those who ordered at a cost of £10. We are using ‘Searched Me Out and Known Me’ by Charlie Bell. If you haven’t come along before why not try it out? Ask if you want to know more or aren’t too sure! March 10th Lent Group at Mellor Cottage Lambourn begins @ 2pm. March 11th Lent Group @ The Vicarage Lambourn begins @7pm
Finally, it is Social Justice Day today – I know every day is a special day! With the withdrawal of USAID many across the world are losing the welfare support they relied on. Charities like Embrace along with their partners support those in the Middle East and strive for justice every day. Please join me in praying that their skills, knowledge and dedication will enable them to continue serving the most vulnerable in society, despite political upheaval, conflict and inequality. Talking of which, an acquaintance of mine wrote yesterday ‘The world feels it’s been turned upside down in just 3 weeks. Praying for sanity to intervene in the bullyboy macho club’ – you are not alone if you are feeling that is the case!
‘Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.’ Isaiah 1:17 As Christians, living out Biblical justice reflects Jesus’ teachings. Worship and justice go hand in hand — meeting needs, uplifting the vulnerable, and restoring dignity are acts of love in action.
This message isn’t new. From the Old Testament to the Gospels, God consistently calls his people to act justly. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Proverbs 31:8).
And very finally a prayer….
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of the church — your people across the world, united in your name.
Help us to stand together in bringing about fairer societies, to share your love in practical ways, and to be a light in our communities.
Amen
Every blessing,
Julie
