Thoughts from The Vicarage with party news, compassion and dates

Greetings! Please find attached Pews News with services, activities, prayer requests and the Collects. This week sees the quiet contemplative BCP service at 8am in St Michael & All Angels. The focus this week is around compassion and rest – the latter being most timely as the holiday season approaches.

We are all looking forward to the farewell bring and share lunch party for Bruce and Eileen this coming Saturday at 12.30. Thanks to those who are helping to set up and do come along from 10.30 if you’d like to join in getting ready for the party! It would be much appreciated.

And talking of parties – what a joyful service we had in church as the Year 6 leavers lit their candles, shared memories, learnt about being as well as doing and sang their hearts out! Thank you to everyone at school for everything you do to ensure the children are well prepared for the move to secondary school!

Please pray for all the young people of the Valley, as the summer holidays get under way! And if you are interested, please do consider volunteering with the Lambourn Youth Group – it is good fun and really rewarding. Ask me if you’d like to know more.

Important dates and events coming up. Please put these into your dairy and support the activities of the Lambourn Valley Benefice. Any query simply ask.

Worship can be thought of as the heartbeat of the Church and its shop window, but how do we worship God together most authentically? Why is it that we worship today in the ways we do? Have you ever thought about reading the lesson, leading intercessions, leading a children’s event, leading a service in any of our churches?

Maybe you are curious and would you like to find out and learn a bit more about worship and all it entails? The local lay worship leaders’ course is for you. The dates are all Wednesdays at The Vicarage, 7.00 -8.30 on September 4, 11, 18, 25 October 2, 9. Please begin to think and pray about this – have a chat with me if you are wondering.

Finally, a prayer:

Today I ask for a spirit of compassion praying for all those working for justice;
for charities campaigning for economic justice,
and for schools, healthcare workers, foodbanks,
and all supporting the vulnerable.
Loving God, help me to live up to your call to feed the hungry and to clothe the naked.
Amen

God bless, Julie
