Thoughts from The Vicarage – a visiting Revd, Lambourn Angels choir and party news
Greetings as the new week dawns and Thoughts arrives much earlier than usual.
Please find attached Pews News for Sundays July 28th, August 4th and August 11th As you will see we are welcoming the Revd Liz Jackson to the Valley for the Benefice service on July 28th – St James Patronal Festival at 10.30. This will be the only service that morning so please don’t turn up elsewhere! All Saints are holding a sung Evensong at 6pm – all welcome to end the day in prayer. Many thanks for the team at All Saints !
Revd Liz kindly returns the following Sunday on August 4th for the two services that day, BCP 9am at St James and then the 10.30 Sung Eucharist at St Michael & All Angels. Do take the opportunity to warmly welcome and meet Liz, the Associate Archdeacon of Reading with responsibility for the Western end of the Archdeaconry. As I said on Sunday she preaches a cracking sermon!
The farewell party for Bruce & Eileen was a super occasion. We send them on their way with much prayer and good wishes for their future as they move home. Pictured attached with fellow Churchwarden Amanda. While Amanda has stepped down from being a Churchwarden we are all pleased that she is going to continue as sacristan. Not pictured here is Nick who will be sharing the Tower Captaincy with Amanda as Bruce says farewell to that role. Thank you to the party preparation and clearing up team along with all those who bought delicious contributions for the meal.
And whilst on the subject of parties thank you to Mary and Henry for the brilliant afternoon Fideua lunch yesterday. Indeed, to all those who once again supported this lovely sociable afternoon where the food was delicious, the company excellent and all in a good cause to support the All Saints Tower Fund.
Worship can be thought of as the heartbeat or engine room of the Church and its shop window, but how do we worship God together most authentically? Why is it that we worship today in the ways we do? Have you ever thought about reading the lesson, leading intercessions, leading a children’s event, leading a service in any of our churches? Maybe you are curious & would you like to find out and learn a bit more about worship and all it entails? The local lay worship course is for you. The dates are all Wednesdays at The Vicarage, 7.00 -8.30 on September 4, 11, 18, 25 October 2, 9. Please begin to think and pray about this – have a chat with me if you are wondering.

Very finally, August sees a number of readings relating to bread and for that reason I leave you with this prayer:
Jesus, Bread of Life,
feed our faith,
help us to share fairly,
to find joy in our differences,
and to love one another
as you have loved us.
Amen.
God bless,
Julie
