Thoughts from the Vicarage 148

Greetings !

As promised in last week’s thoughts, hedgehog and vicarage garden news abound this week.

Using the timed drip, drip leaky hose pipe system installed way back by Mr Vicarage, we’ve ploughed the fields and harvested a great deal. Produce has ranged from cucumbers, salad greens to marrows (!) via tomatoes, French beans, runners and broad beans.

This week’s lucky ‘winners’ of a Vicarage marrow or two were Alison and Jon. I hope that they may inspire you with their idea. Alison writes, ‘I was just about to write how much we enjoyed one marrow stuffed with mushrooms, onions, garlic , a bit of mozzarella& Parmesan last night ! So delicious !’ The round courgettes have been fabulous, simply chop in half remove seeds and pop in small tomatoes with a dash of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and bake.

Should anyone be short of a marrow or know anyone who would like one – please do reply and ask for one!

I realise that we’re not all fortunate to have such bounty at our fingertips and as we give thanks that all good things around us are indeed sent from heaven above, so let us pray for those who lack the necessities of life. At the office of Morning Prayer each day we give thanks for the basic necessities of life, a roof over our head and food and drink sufficient to our needs – do join us if you are so inclined. The details are on page 2 of Pews News attached here.

Hedgehog news is mixed this week and as you can see from the attached photo 🙂 we’ve had many visitors to the Vicarage garden hoggie restaurant – we only serve water and Spikes hoggie food but they appear to be very content and healthy. However, a near neighbour who also has a hoggie restaurant shared the news that his camera had caught a badger on film who had taken a fancy to the baby hedgehog. Such is nature.

Moving on – a reminder that the famous St Michael’s cream teas are back this year in the cool church on Bank Holiday Monday August 29th from 3 – 5pm. In order to make this event as wonderful as usual we are needing volunteers to bake scones and cakes please. We will also be welcoming volunteers to help at this popular event on the day. If you are able to bake or offer a hand please contact either Sandra or Brian 01488 72587 or Amanda 01488 670083.

Looking into September and the new school year why not join us and have your school bag/laptop or pencil case blessed? Blessing is about asking God to be with us where we are – that includes school! It would be wonderful to see you. These services, like all of our worship are places and times where children and adults are welcome together and where we can grow in faith.

Services for this week are on the attached Pews News and it would be lovely to welcome you either to the quiet early morning service of Holy Communion using the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) at 8am in Lambourn or later at Eastbury or to the All Together Eucharist in Lambourn at 11 am.

Every blessing for the coming week

Julie
