Thoughts from The Vicarage with Thought for The Day, family outing and a reminder.
Greetings as we look ahead to Passion Sunday, two weeks before Easter. There is a turning point in the Gospel reading this week when Jesus, having just raised Lazarus from the dead is anointed with costly perfume. He then speaks of his own burial and says ‘you do not always have me’. This is the moment in Lent when we begin to journey with Jesus to Jerusalem during what is known as Passiontide.
As Christians, this moment can give us real hope and perspective. For underlying the gospel narrative is another clash of powers: the power of God’s Kingdom against the earthly powers – a theme which appears especially relevant at this present time.
I wonder if you listen to Thought for The Day. This morning it was the turn of Jayne Manfredi who reflected upon the noun ‘Liberation’. She used the story Jesus told about a shrewd manager and concluded; ‘If great wealth doesn’t promote generosity, and instead creates a scarcity mindset characterised by fear and greed, then that doesn’t sound like liberty. Jesus said, “all I have is yours, and all you have is mine.” This is the meaning of true liberation. Deliverance. Salvation. To be set free. https://tinyurl.com/mr2rskx3

And finally a prayer from Canon Gerald Osborne.
Heavenly Father,
Your Kingdom come we pray.
Your will be done.
We pray for the leaders of all nations.
That they may turn to you and seek your will.
We thank you for the confidence we can have in your ultimate rule.
And so help each of us as we build for your Kingdom wherever we are.
Amen
Every blessing
