Thoughts from The Vicarage with singing, school and Epiphany

Greetings and Happy New Year! Please find attached Pews News (there are always copies in our churches)

This Sunday is Epiphany. The Epiphany season continues the theme of Christmas, that God is here among us. This season is basically all about Jesus being shown to the world, a gift given to us and for us.

For many families today sees the return to school – a joy for some while being a challenge to some! We wish you all well for the coming term. That reminds me to say a huge thank you to Miss Crick for bringing F1 to church this morning when we heard the story of the Magi, we searched for them in church and learnt lots about the greatest gift of all as we followed the star to see the newborn King. Of course, no visit is complete without a snack – jammy dodgers and a drink! Seriously, thanks to the four fabulous volunteers and Christine who shared the story. Can’t wait for the children to return on February 1st when I am praying that my team will help out once again!

Watch out on social media as we launch Lambourn Youth Voices which will be held in church with myself at the helm – each Tuesday beginning January 23rd after school at 4pm. All welcome from Year 2 onwards…. And the Youth bit means Youth at heart!

Talking of singing reminds me that with only 11 – yes eleven Sundays to Easter Day rehearsals for the legendary Lambourn Good Friday concert will be under way this coming Thursday January 11th at 8pm in St Michael’s Lambourn. All singers are welcome – come along and join in and please don’t be shy. And Good Friday is on March 29th this year. Cue, a lot of checking of diaries to check up and pop the date in!

On a different note (!) and without wishing to add to anxiety please use these numbers if needed:

  • If you have sewerage related issue to report please phone TW on 0800 316 9800;
  • Flooding incidents can be reported to the EA on their Incident Hotline 0800 807060.

And finally, as we set out on our journey through 2024 at this season of Epiphany it’s a time when the church encourages us to lift our eyes from the manger and the newborn baby, to see how Jesus was revealed to the world at the beginning of his ministry. It is a time that can often provoke questions rather than provide answers, a time of seeking. I wonder what are you seeking….

And very finally a prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, your birth at Bethlehem
draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth:
accept our heartfelt praise,
as we worship you,
our Saviour and our eternal God.
Amen.

Wishing you a healthy, peaceful 2024,

God bless

Julie
